4Ratchet Clamp vs Spring Clamp
By Sacratomato
When moving heavy, bulky items, a ratchet tie down is the best solution. But every ratchet tie down I've purchased ends up unusable. Either the release bar jams, so I can't feed out the strap, or the straps bind up inside the ratchet and won't feed. I can bring in the neighborhood brain trust but they can never figure out how to untangle the tie downs either. It seems many people buy ratchet tie downs when the need arises and then put them away. Two or three years later, when they need tie down straps again, they find out they don't remember how to untwist the old tie downs, so they buy new ones.

But the old fashioned spring clamp, that's another story. The strap feeds straight through with no complicated curves or twists and then the spring clamp locks down: there's no cams or ratchets, no gears or release mechanisms. In a year, when you need a tie down, it will still work. And if it's twisted, you can fix it. Buying a spring clamp tie down isn't easy and I wa s happy to find the Master Lock tie down on Amazon. Most automotive stores and places like Walmart only sell ratchet clamps. This Master Lock tie down is simple, sturdy and well constructed. The hooks are strong and hefty, maybe too hefty for some uses. A medium sized carabiner ring may be needed to fit smaller tie down rings.

If I used my tie downs on a regular basis, I'd buy ratchet tie downs because I'd remember how to use and adjust them. But for me as a very occasional user, a spring clamp tie down is the best solution for almost all of the loads I move. You can buy this Master Lock tie down and use it today, next month and the year after that.

4Excellent Tiedown
By Moakane
The captive hooks are a necessity, I won't buy straps without them. The strap material has a very soft feel to it, they are not hard and scratchy.

A soft boot to cover the clamp would be a nice touch to an otherwise nice strap for using on nicely painted cargo, they should add this.

Recommended.

5exactly what I needed
By czkathy
I use these straps to fasten weights to a canopy tent at outdoor fairs. They are easy to hook onto the weights and tent, and simple and effective to tighten. I like them much better than ratcheting tie-downs - fewer moving parts, no grease, and simple to use. As a bonus, the color blends in well with the white tent, giving my booth a more professional look than I'd get with colored tie-downs.
